โยบโอดครวญถึงความน่าทุเรศของเขาในปัจจุบัน
1 "แต่เดี๋ยวนี้เขาเยาะข้า คือคนที่อ่อนกว่าข้าน่ะ คนที่ข้าจะเหยียดหยามพ่อของเขา ถึงกับไม่ยอมให้อยู่กับสุนัขที่เฝ้าฝูงแพะแกะของข้า
2 ข้าจะได้อะไรจากกำลังมือของเขาทั้งหลาย คือของคนที่เรี่ยวแรงเขาหมดไปแล้ว
3 โดยที่ขาดแคลนและหิวโหย เขาแทะดินที่แห้งและทิ้งร้าง
4 เขาเก็บผักชะครามและใบไม้ และเอารากต้นซากมาเป็นอาหาร
5 เขาถูกขับไล่ออกไปจากท่ามกลางคน มีคนตะโกนตามเขาไปอย่างตามโจร
6 ฉะนั้น เขาต้องพักอยู่ที่ลำละหาน ในโพรงดินและซอกหิน
7 เขาร้องอยู่ท่ามกลางพุ่มไม้ เขาเบียดกันอยู่ภายใต้ต้นเหงือกหนาม
8 เป็นพวกคนถ่อย เออ เป็นพวกคนเสียชื่อ เขาถูกกวาดออกไปเสียจากแผ่นดิน
9 "และบัดนี้ข้ากลายเป็นเพลงเยาะเย้ยของเขา เออ ข้าเป็นขี้ปากของเขา
10 เขาทั้งหลายสะอิดสะเอียนข้า และเหินห่างจากข้าเขาไม่รั้งรอที่จะถ่มน้ำลายลงพอเขาเห็นข้า
11 เพราะพระเจ้าทรงหย่อนสายธนูของข้า และให้ข้าตกต่ำ เขาทั้งหลายก็เหวี่ยงความยั้งคิดเสียต่อหน้าข้า
12 คนพาลลุกขึ้นข้างขวามือของข้า เขาผลักดันข้าออกไป เขาเหวี่ยงทางแห่งความพินาศไว้ต่อสู้ข้า
13 เขาพังทางเดินของข้า เขาเสริมภัยพิบัติให้ข้า ไม่มีผู้ใดช่วยไว้เลย
14 เขามาอย่างกับมาทางช่องโหว่ เขากลิ้งเข้ามาท่ามกลางสิ่งสลักหักพัง
15 ความสยดสยองต่างๆหันมาใส่ข้า เกียรติของข้าถูกเขาติดตามอย่างลมตาม และความเจริญรุ่งเรืองของข้าศูนย์ไปเสียอย่างเมฆ
16 "บัดนี้จิตใจของข้าก็ละลายไปด้วยความเศร้าสลด วันแห่งความทุกข์ใจยึดตัวข้าไว้
17 กลางคืนกระดูกข้าผุไป และความเจ็บปวดที่แทะข้านั้นไม่หยุดพักเลย
18 เครื่องแต่งกายของข้าเสียรูปไปด้วยความรุนแรงมันมัดข้าอย่างผ้าคอเสื้อรัดข้า
19 พระเจ้าทรงเหวี่ยงข้าลงในปลัก และข้าก็กลายเป็นเหมือนผงคลีและขี้เถ้า
20 ข้าพระองค์ร้องทูลพระองค์ และพระองค์หาทรงตอบข้าพระองค์ไม่ ข้าพระองค์ยืนขึ้น และพระองค์หาทรงมองไม่
21 พระองค์กลับทรงดุร้ายต่อข้าพระองค์ พระองค์ทรงข่มเหงข้าพระองค์ด้วยพระหัตถ์ทรงฤทธิ์ของพระองค์
22 พระองค์ทรงชูข้าพระองค์ขึ้นเหนือลม และทรงให้ข้าพระองค์ขี่ลม และทรงให้ข้าพระองค์ละลายไปในพายุ
23 ข้าพระองค์ทราบแล้วว่าพระองค์จะทรงให้ข้าพระองค์ตายเสีย และให้ไปสู่ที่กำหนดของคนเป็นทั้งปวง
24 "ถึงกระนั้นคนในกองสลักหักพังไม่ยื่นมือของเขาออก ร้องขอความช่วยเหลือในท่ามกลางภัยพิบัติของเขาหรือ
25 ข้ามิได้ร้องไห้เพื่อผู้ที่วันเวลาของเขายากเย็นหรือ จิตใจของข้ามิได้โศกสลดเพื่อคนขัดสนหรือ
26 แต่เมื่อข้ามองหาของดี ของร้ายก็มาถึง และเมื่อข้าคอยความสว่าง ความมืดก็มาถึง
27 จิตใจของข้าสับสนไม่เคยสงบเลย วันแห่งความทุกข์ใจมาพบข้า
28 ข้าหมองคล้ำไป มิใช่ด้วยแดด ข้ายืนขึ้นในที่ชุมนุมชน และร้องขอความช่วยเหลือ

Job 30
1 But now [they that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
2 Yea, whereto [might] the strength of their hands [profit] me, in whom old age was perished?
3 For want and famine [they were] solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
4 Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots [for] their meat.
5 They were driven forth from among [men], (they cried after them as [after] a thief;)
6 To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, [in] caves of the earth, and [in] the rocks.
7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
8 [They were] children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
9 And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
10 They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
11 Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
12 Upon [my] right [hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
13 They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
14 They came [upon me] as a wide breaking in [of waters]: in the desolation they rolled themselves [upon me].
15 Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
17 My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
18 By the great force [of my disease] is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
19 He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me [not].
21 Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.
22 Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride [upon it], and dissolvest my substance.
23 For I know [that] thou wilt bring me [to] death, and [to] the house appointed for all living.
24 Howbeit he will not stretch out [his] hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
25 Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was [not] my soul grieved for the poor?
26 When I looked for good, then evil came [unto me]: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
27 My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.
28 I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, [and] I cried in the congregation.
29 I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.
30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
31 My harp also is [turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
